Family Or Television ?

"Television: The Plug-In Drug" by Marie Winn (pp. 438-447 50 Essay)
In the essay “Television: The Plug-In Drug” Author Marie Winn describes, to us the affects that television may have on the culture and life of a modern family. Winn states that before television was invented families were a lot closer together, partaking in traditions, family meetings, and family dinners, but soon that was all about to change. Winn predicted by the year of 2000 that ¾ of American families would have two or more televisions in the house, and  with that families have dwindled in those great family aspects. Examples of how this happened were families solving there problems with TV, parents cook dinner while their kids watch TV, and not interacting with each and being a close family. Winn states that television isn’t the only reason for family tragedies, the divorce rate, down sloping communities, and busy working parents have also played key factors in the family down fall.

I believe that Winn has a very good point on how television can affect family, but I believe it all depends on how the family uses it. I think television is a great tool to have in everyday life. It keeps us up to date with major news in the world, tells us about problems and solutions for our problems, and always thorows us a good laugh here and there. Each day television is evolving to be more efficient, portable, and versatile. What started out as just a square box on your table top can now be taken any wear on a tablet or smart phone that can fit in your pocket.

As a child I grew up with a lot of TV in my life. Whether it would be cartoons, the news, or animal planet. By watching Television on a day to day basis I am able to hear, listen, and pick up important information about our world and what is going on. I think everyone should partake in watching TV, because it keeps us all on the same page and allows us to expand are thought on issues of the world.
